StrandVeld Hiking Club Program for 2011
The following program has been set out for 2011. We will start off early (07h00) during the Summer months and a little later 08h00 during the Winter months. Membership Fees will be R50.00 for new members and Free for existing members. Costs per hike will either go towards fuel expenses or entrance fees. Also bring some extra money in case costs are higher than anticipated or when we stop for refreshments enroute etc. Please also bring correct amounts as change are not always available.
Sat 5 February 2011: We hike along the coast of Hermanus, from Grotto beach to the Old Harbour, and back. This is an easy hike along the cliff path. START: 07h00 at Gansbaai Toursit office at SPAR center. LEADER: Cilla Bouwer [0823238690]. COST: R30.00 pp
Sat 5 March 2011: Coastal hike, Buffeljachts to Pearly Beach. Easy hike, sand and rocky coastline, but on fisherman’s paths [15km]. START: Gansbaai Info. LEADER: Jill Horton [0761488937]. COST: R30.00 pp.
Sat 2 April 2011: Coastal hike, from Brandfontein to Die Damme campsite. Easy, but long hike along coastline on fisherman’s footpaths [18km]. START: 07.00 Gansbaai Info. LEADER: Roelof Diener [0825525444]. COST: R40.00 pp

Sat 6 Aug 2011: Mount Dyer hike. Beautiful, from the back of Duynefontein mountains. Lots of fynbos will be in flower. START: 08.00 at Gansbaai Info. LEADER: Gerhard Kotze [0828084588]. COST: R20 pp
Sat 3 Sept 2011: Farm 215. Nice jeep track walk, mountainous area, near Baardskeerdersbos. Fynbos in flower. START: 08.00 at Gansbaai Info. LEADER: Russ Griffith [0743574298]. COST: R30 pp
Sat 1 Oct 2011: Coastal hike from Hermanus along sandy beach of Walker Bay nature Reserve to De Kelders. Long, but pleasant walk [20+ km]. Low tide will be at 11h40. LEADER: Otto Boyens [0283841309]. START: 07.00 [note earlier start for summer months] at Gansbaai Info. COST: R60 pp, including R20 entrance fee to Nature reserve].
Sat 5 Nov 2011: Coastal hike from Buffeljachts to De Damme. We walk past Quoin Point Light House and beautiful fisherman’s houses. LEADER: Roelof Diener [0825525444]. START: 07.00 at Gansbaai Info. COST: R40 pp
Sat 3 Dec 2011: Year End Hike at Witkransberg. LEADER: Dave Privett. START: 07.00 at Gansbaai Info. COST: R20 pp. This will be followed by a ‘Bring and Braai’ – so please remember to bring something to braai + something to drink.
This is a guide to the hikes for this year. Please bear in mind that hikes can change without prior notice, as we have to take the weather, tides etc. into consideration. Please keep yourselves up to date with details and changes. For more details on hikes and difficulty etc., please contact respective leaders. Leaders for the specific hikes must ensure that notifications are placed in local newspapers well ahead of time.
